Adrenosterone, also known as 11-OXO, is an endogenous hormonal compound that is being investigated as a dietary supplement that may be capable of reducing fat and increasing muscle mass. 11-OXO has shown potential to convert into 11-ketotestosterone , which contributes to adrenosterone’s possible androgenic effects. It is proposed that adrenosterone may function as an inhibitor of the 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 enzyme (11beta-HSD1), which is primarily responsible for reactivation of cortisol from cortisone. Cortisol is a catabolic hormone that may inhibit muscle growth, and as such by suppressing or inhibiting cortisol levels, 11-OXO may potentially promote muscle growth.
