Evodiamine

Evodiamine is an alkaloid plant extract that is currently being investigated as a potential weight loss aid. In a recent research article, rats given evodiamine showed significant fat loss compared to a control group. An additional interesting finding of the study was that evodiamine could potentially induce heat loss at the same time as a heat production increase. This could possibly indicate less fat storage and weight gain from food intake.

DMAA

Recent studies examined neurocognitive performance following acute consumption of a DMAA-containing dietary supplement. The ImPACT test, a computerized neurocognitive assessment, was used to measure neurocognitive performance such as attention, verbal recognition memory and visual working memory. Results indicated that participants had significantly improved reaction time and increased scores on the cognitive-efficiency index following ingestion of the DMAA containing supplement. Further research is required to confirm the efficacy of DMAA.

Orlistat

A recent study set out to assess the effectiveness of orlistat, amphetamine or the two in combination on obesity in male albino rats fed on high fat diet. Following six weeks of treatment with orlistat (12 mg/kg) or amphetamine (1.5 mg/k) the results produced significant decrease in body weight and food intake and significant reducing effect on total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and significant increase in serum ghrelin levels.

Cardarine

GW-501516, also known as Cardarine, is a PPAR agonist. Cardarine is used in research for its potential to facilitate fat-burning by increasing endurance and stamina. A study done on the effects of GW-501516 for enhancing running endurance in Kunming mice demonstrated that a 3-week dosing protocol with GW501516 was able to increase performance related to running of both trained and untrained mice. Similar to training, GW501516 showed an increase in mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation and enhanced fat metabolism in muscle tissue. This could potentially lead to less demanding cardiovascular work, increasing weekly deficits, resulting in increased fat loss.
