J-147 is a research compound being investigated as a potent neuroprotective and neurotrophic that protects against neurotoxicity in cortical neurons in vitro. J 147 has shown the ability to enhance memory in normal animals and to prevent memory deficits in that of Alzheimer’s disease mouse models. These effects are associated with an increase in brain derived neurotrophic factor levels, improved long-term potentiation, preservation of synaptic proteins, diminishing of markers for oxidative stress and inflammation, a decrease in amyloid plaques, and lower levels of soluble amyloid β.
