What Are SARMS?
SARMs are a class of therapeutic compounds with similar anabolic properties to anabolic steroids, but fewer prostatic effects in men and virilizing effects in women.
Unlike anabolic steroids, which target androgen receptors (ARs) in tissues all over the body, SARMs only bind ARs in specific tissues, sparing the others.

How Do SARMs Work?
SARMs work by binding to androgen receptors (ARs) in certain tissues, but not in all.
Depending on their structure, SARMs can be full agonists, partial agonists, or antagonists. Studies have found that they act as full agonists in skeletal muscle and partial agonists in the prostate.
Research has shown that SARMs promote anabolic activity by enhancing the beneficial effects of androgen in skeletal muscle. It was found that they do not cause side effects associated with androgen treatment. These include risks to the liver, reproductive organs, and cardiac systems. [R]

Ostarine, also known as Enobosarm, was originally developed for the treatment of muscle wasting and osteoporosis. It is currently being investigated in research for its potential ability to treat and manage muscle wasting diseases caused by cancer, AIDS, and other similar conditions.
In a mice study, Ostarine showed that it could activate muscle stem cells. Muscle stem cells are satellite cells that help regenerate and remodel muscles. In a separate animal study, this SARM increased the activity of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). Ligandrol is one of the more recently developed SARMs. Like Ostarine, it was developed to treat and manage muscle wasting in the elderly, cancer patients, and people with muscular dystrophy. It is currently being investigated in research for hip fracture recovery.
Ovariectomized rats were given LGD 4033 to investigate its effect on muscle tissue. Rats were administered a bodyweight-dependent dose on a daily basis. At the study's conclusion, it was observed that the LGD 4033 group weighed significantly more than members of the control group. Cardarine, also known as GW501516, as a research chemical is being investigated for its potential to boost metabolism. GlaxoSmithKline developed Cardarine for its potential benefits on diabetes, heart, and blood vessels. Phase II trials have been conducted on animals.
In a pre-clinical study on healthy adults, the effects of Cardarine on triglycerides were observed. It is well-known that elevated triglyceride levels are bad for the heart. The study revealed that a 16.9% reduction in triglyceride levels following a daily administration of GW501516. [R]
YK 11 (Myostine)
YK11 is a selective androgen receptor and myostatin inhibitor. A recent study has shown that YK11 increases the activity of Follistatin in mice. Follistatin is a protein found in the human body, and its raised levels inhibit myostatin. Inhibition of myostatin is known to increase muscle mass and strength.
The study compared the amount of muscle mass between mice with low levels of myostatin and those with high levels of myostatin. The latter group was observed to have twice the amount of muscle mass. This shows that YK11 could possess strong anabolic effects.
Andarine was originally developed for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy. BPH is a condition in which the male prostate gland enlarges. It is believed to be caused by hormonal changes. An animal study suggests S4 may provide clinical benefits against BPH. [R]
A study was conducted on castrated rats to examine the bone anabolic effects of Andarine. Andarine was observed to demonstrate a strong affinity for androgen receptors. At the same time, it showed little affinity for prostate, measured in terms of prostate enlargement. [R]
