S23 is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM).

SARMs are compounds that selectively target androgen receptors (ARs) in certain tissues, but not in others. They have similar anabolic properties to anabolic steroids, but with reduced androgenic (producing male characteristics) properties. [R]

How Does The S23 SARM Work?

Similar to other SARMs, S23 selectively binds to androgen receptors in the muscles and bones, while only mildly affecting the prostate and other tissues. This was also evident in the abovementioned study, in which S23 partially maintained prostate and seminal muscles.

Animal studies have shown that S23 SARM has a half-life of 11.9 hours. It has also been found that S23 reaches peak concentrations within 4 hours of administration. However, in the absence of clinical studies, its absorption in humans is unknown. [R]

The pharmacologic effects of S23 were characterized in male rats as an animal model of male hormonal contraception. S-23 showed high binding affinity and was identified as a full agonist in vitro. This potential male contraceptive also increased bone mineral density in research subjects. [R]

5. S23 and Female Sexual Motivation

A rat study set out to investigate the effects of S23 on sexual motivation of ovariectomized female rats. All females that received S-23 demonstrated a significant increase in sexual motivation, with similar increases seen at doses ranging from 0.05 mg/day to 3 mg/kg/day. [R]
