Description
Oxiracetam – Product Information
It is a nootropic compound belonging to the racetam family. Research has shown that it can penetrate the blood-brain barrier and improve the clinical outcomes of neurodegenerative diseases, cognition and memory deficits, stroke, seizures, and anxiety.
Although it is derived from Piracetam, the ‘original’ racetam, it has demonstrated superior efficacy in relieving cognitive impairment and improving the memory factor. In clinical trials, it has exhibited excellent bioavailability and a half-life of 3 to 6 hours.
- Oxiracetam is offered as 30g powder.
Pure Rawz sells Oxiracetam for laboratory and research use only.

What is Oxiracetam?
It is a nootropic compound belonging to the family of racetams, which are drugs that share the same chemical backbone (a pyrrolidone ring). It is an analog of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a brain chemical known for producing a calming effect. [R]
Oxiracetam is one of the three racetam compounds, the other two being Piracetam and Aniracetam, that activate AMPA-type glutamate receptors in the body. This action increases the density of AMPA receptor binding sites, presumably elevating calcium levels. [R]
Since it was first developed in the 1970s, multiple clinical studies have investigated the safety and efficacy of it. These studies have shown that the drug possesses the ability to reverse various symptoms associated with dementias of multiple origins. [R][R]
In separate clinical trials, it has demonstrated its neuroprotective and cognition-enhancing properties. The compound has also exhibited excellent bioavailability with a tolerable safety profile. PureRawz does not sell it for human consumption. [R][R]
How does Oxiracetam Work?
Although its exact working mechanism remains unknown, Oxiracetam has been shown to:
- Positively modulate AMPA-sensitive glutamate receptors in neurons [R]
- Stimulate the release of acetylcholine in the brain [R]
- Inhibit pre-programmed cell apoptosis (death) in neurons [R]
- Stimulate the production of cellular energy, such as glucose [R]
- Increases density of 1,4- dihydropyridine receptors in the cerebral cortex [R]
All the above effects have been reported in preliminary animal studies. It is unknown whether it could replicate them in humans. More human trials are thus needed to investigate what effects this racetam may have on the human brain.
Oxiracetam Research
What follows is a summary of the existing clinical and preclinical research on Oxiracetam. The information given in this section is for educational purposes only and doesn’t constitute medical advice. PureRawz doesn’t sell it for human consumption.
Oxiracetam and Dementia
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, Oxiracetam treatment (800 mg/day for 12 weeks) improved the quality of life of patients suffering from primary degenerative, multi-infarct, or mixed dementia. A significant improvement in some neurological associations was also observed. [R]
Another clinical study examined the effects of Oxiracetam treatment in patients with dementias of vascular origin. Of the 12 patients who were administered this compound, four (33%) showed moderate clinical improvement, and six (50%) exhibited minimal clinical improvement. [R]
Similarly, a third study investigated the effects of Oxiracetam in patients with dementia of Alzheimer’s type. Patients who received the drug experienced improvements in tests measuring memory, auditor performance, word fluency, word recall, and daily life activities. [R]
Oxiracetam and Memory
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 2,400 mg/day of it improved short-term and verbal memory in 40 elderly with organic brain syndrome. Furthermore, the tolerability of the drug was good, and the improvement in symptoms was observed within 1 week. [R]
A clinical trial examined the effects of Oxiracetam treatment on 73 patients with post-stroke or primary degenerative dementia. Final results indicated that the drug improved verbal memory. It was also found to improve oral fluency in both groups of patients. [R]
Similarly, in three clinical trials, it exhibited greater improvements than placebo in the memory of mild to moderate dementia patients. The study also noted that it is a safe compound at single and repeated oral dosages of up to 2,400 mg for 3 months. [R]
Oxiracetam and Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by the accumulation of amyloid beta (AB) in the brain. AB triggers the activation of microglia (neuronal support cells) that, in turn, cause inflammation in the brain.
In a cell-based study, Oxiracetam therapy induced neuroprotection by reducing AB-induced microglial activation in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The inflammation in the brain was also suppressed, suggesting a potential therapeutic role for Oxiracetam in treating AD. [R]
Oxiracetam and Organic Brain Syndrome
A 12-week study was conducted to determine whether oral Oxiracetam treatment was safe and effective in the elderly with organic brain syndrome. Piracetam was also tested either in parallel or separate experiments. The effects of both racetams were then compared.
Results from this study show that in comparison to Piracetam, it exhibited a more statistically significant improvement in the memory factor (enhanced memory). Both nootropic drugs were well tolerated by the subjects and did not elicit any significant side effects. [R]
Oxiracetam and Cognitive Function
Three clinical studies showed the positive effects of it on cognitive function.
In the first trial, Oxiracetam (1,600 mg/day) improved reaction time and cognitive function in 96 patients with cognitive impairment. The second trial reported an improvement in reaction time and attention in 43 patients with decreased intellectual function. [R]
The third trial was far more large-scale as it involved 289 patients with various forms of dementia. Results from this study show that it slightly improved some cognitive functions and decreased anxiety and tension in the group which was administered this drug. [R]
Oxiracetam and Neuroprotection
According to a clinical trial involving patients who suffered from strokes due to hypertension, the combination of Oxiracetam capsules with nerve growth factor (NGF) helped with brain recovery and increased survival. The combined therapy was also reported to decrease inflammation. [R]
Another trial showed it protected 60 healthy people against cognitive impairment at high altitudes (at 4,000 meters). These results are significant because it is common for otherwise healthy people to face cognitive impairment at elevated heights. [R]
Lastly, the nootropic reportedly helped restore circadian rhythm and reduced brain damage in rats with experimentally-induced strokes. These effects were produced in neuronal cultures [R]
Oxiracetam and Amnesia
Amnesia refers to the loss of memories, such as experiences, information, and facts.
In a human amnesia model, acute doses of it reduced scopolamine-induced cognitive impairment in otherwise healthy volunteers. While three Oxiracetam doses were administered to the participants, statistically significant improvements were observed at the 1,600 mg dosage. [R]
